Bill Brown Auto Clinic was started in 1949 by
William C. Brown. It was located in Detroit on Oakman Boulevard until 1972, when
the business was moved to its present location in Canton Township. In 1985
Gerard Folk took over ownership from Bill. Bill has been an employee of the
corporation since then. Our present facility is a 3600 square foot building on
Lilley Rd.
We currently employ 11 people. We have 6 full time technicians, including the
owner, and we have 5 part time office personnel. Each of our technicians have
their own area of expertise and work closely with each other to offer the best
in auto repair service. All of our work is by appointment and we usually have a
week's backlog of appointments. Our main advertising is word of mouth. We run
very minor ads in school publications. When the appointment is made, we keep the
appointment and look at the car on the day it is scheduled. We give a written
estimate when the car is dropped off and call for authorization after the
preliminary diagnosis is completed. After the work is completed and the car
released, the customer is called with a follow-up call to make sure that
everything is operating as expected.
We strive to stay current with our equipment and training. Among our most recent
purchase is a SUN MCS 2500 with 4 gas and Simutech. We also subscribe to
Mitchells on Demand and Ford TSB program for the latest in information. We also
use AUTO-LINE telediagnosis. We have a complete library with manuals from the
40's to the 90's. We also have a number of hand held scopes including the fluke
88 scopemeter and Mac quick scope. In scan tools we have the Tech 1, and OTC
Monitor 4000 Enhanced, and Snap on Scanner. We have a borescope for close
inspections, a black light for leak detection, a signal generator for dashboard
and other work and a complete set of ABS gauges and tools.
Our shop was one of the first on the now-defunct Delco tech program. We are
members of the Auto Service Association of Michigan and Gerry has served on the
Board of Directors from 1990 to 1994, either as Secretary or Mechanical Division
Director.
